This document summarizes the effort made by the work team of Educational Technologies for Learning Program (Protea) at the Faculty of Education of the University of Costa Rica (UCR) to assume a leadership role in adapting to the context of the covid-19 pandemic and responding to the potential return to face-to-face activities. The objective of the program was to explore the possibilities of a hybrid teaching model that combines the best of face-to-face and virtual teaching. To achieve this, several efforts were made, including the creation of a pilot program implemented at the Faculty of Education during the first academic semester of 2022. The pilot program, designed in collaboration with experts in pedagogy and educational technologies, assessed how the combination of face-to-face and virtual instruction could enhance teaching and learning processes. Technical aspects, available resources, and pedagogical proposals were considered to create an effective hybrid learning environment. The development of the pilot program highlighted the need to establish institutional guidelines based on this experience. Currently, the University of Costa Rica has guidelines on the flexible hybrid model endorsed by the Academic Vice-Rector, which allows teachers to adapt the course proposals to the needs of students and programs.
