Abstract

This article presents research aimed at evaluating the educational experience of students at a higher education institution after their participation in a Learning & Service program. A descriptive observational study was conducted with 30 students (20 women, 10 men) with a mean age of 22.2 ± 3.3 years, enrolled in the Kinesiology, Nursing, and Nutrition and Dietetics programs at Universidad San Sebastián, Valdivia campus. Data collection was carried out using a previously validated online questionnaire, with values from 1 to 5 (where 1 is low and 5 is high), which assessed service, competencies, participation, and transversal skills. This questionnaire was completed after the students finished participating in the community engagement project “Vínculos, vivamos sin dolor” (Connections, Let’s Live Without Pain) and implemented the Learning & Service methodology. The research results indicate that the educational experience of the students who participated in the Learning & Service program was highly positive. These results recommend the implementation of this type of activity as a methodology for the comprehensive training of students.
