Guidelines for Authors

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check that their submission meets all of the elements shown below. Submissions that do not meet these guidelines will be returned to authors.

    • The submission has not been previously published or submitted for consideration by any other journal (or an explanation has been provided in the Comments to the Editor).
  1. General Considerations for Submissions:

1.- All manuscripts must be in Spanish language and must be submitted in a Microsoft Word document, with .doc or .docx extension. No other format will be accepted.

2.- All manuscripts must be unpublished.

In a separate document (Word), certain data of the authors responsible for the manuscript should be included, specifically the following: full name, institutional affiliation or current position (institution, city, country), academic degree(s), e-mail and ORCID.

The text must comply with the technical and stylistic requirements indicated in the Guidelines for Authors, which can be found in Submissions.

Authors declare that they are aware that the Saberes Educativos Journal, at the beginning and end of the editorial process, will submit the article to a similarity review, through the Turnitin detection software, to verify its originality.

6.- The text should not include the names of the authors or a way to identify them, ensuring a blind review.

7.- The authors declare that they have no conflicts of interest in relation to the contents and conclusions presented in their article.

Those articles with more than one author must declare their contribution to the manuscript, using the roles indicated in the NISO CRediT standard.

  1. The texts should be classified in one of the following categories:

1.- Original articles: new research or other original contributions, framed within the focus of the journal.

2.- Review articles: original elaboration based on already published material.

3.- Essays: monographic works referring to a personal and original reflection on topics related to the focus of the journal. They may consist of theoretical and methodological discussions or reflections on empirical facts.

4.- Interviews: dialogue held with a specific social actor belonging to the field of education, where relevant issues of the educational reality, public policies and/or his/her professional career or experience are discussed in depth, according to the questions asked by the interviewer.

Good practices: articles referring to the implementation of public policies in the field of education and/or innovative practices developed in educational communities, whether in the areas of teaching, institutional management, union organization, internal processes or other directly related matters.

Point of view: opinion article, of a critical or investigative nature, aimed at questioning, stressing or explaining relevant issues raised by other texts published in the journal, or issues concerning national or international current affairs in the field of education.

Review: critical and synthetic analysis of books, essays, studies or other types of publications.

III. Rules on the structure and presentation of manuscripts:

All manuscripts must present their title in Spanish (Times New Roman 16) and English (Times New Roman 14). Titles should be concise (no more than 12 or 15 words).

2.- Abstract

All manuscripts must present their title in Spanish (Times New Roman 16) and English (Times New Roman 14). Titles should be concise (no more than 12 or 15 words).

3.- Key words

Under the abstract, 5 key words that are representative of the text and internationally validated should be indicated. As in the abstract, these keywords should be in Spanish and English.

4.- Content of the article

The journal publishes different categories of manuscripts, as described in these publication guidelines. Regardless of the type of work submitted, it must contain at least the following sections:

  1. Introduction/ Background/ Presentation. It explains the purpose of the work and addresses in a theoretical and/or empirical way the foundations that justify its approach.
  2. Methodology. Especially for scientific articles, this section should consider the definitions and details of the approach to the object of study, allowing to understand the decisions taken and their scientific support.
  3. It should describe the results of the analysis developed in the work, performing this task in a clear manner and being able to support the contents in the evidence compiled, produced and presented in the article.
  4. Conclusions/discussion. A space should be provided in the article to deepen the interpretation, academic or professional implications, projections, challenges and/or limitations of the work performed, particularly considering the results presented and the theoretical and empirical definitions and other background information presented to account for the object of study.
  5. A list of all the references used in the preparation of the article should be presented in alphabetical order. The presentation of the references should follow APA 7th edition standards.
  6. Tables and figures. Each of the tables and/or figures presented in the article must follow APA 7th edition standards.

5.- Citation

All citations and references should be made according to APA (American Psychological Association), 7th edition.

It is necessary that all citations made in the text correspond to the entries in the References section. At the same time, only works that have been cited within the manuscript should be included in the References. If they exist, the DOI (Digital Object Identifier) should also be included, which can be consulted at www.crossref.org.

Self-citations should not exceed 10% of the total number of bibliographical references.

  1. Others:

1.- Page configuration: letter size, 2.5 cm margins (both sides), 1.5 line spacing.

2.- All articles should use Times New Roman font. Titles: 14 or 12 points, according to their hierarchy. Body text: 12 point. Footnotes: 10 points.

Pages should be numbered, starting with the title page (beginning of the text) and continuing consecutively up to the last page of the bibliographical references.

4.- Tables and graphs should be numbered consecutively, with Arabic numerals. Tables and graphs should be entered according to APA 7th edition standards and should be editable.

The use of the third person impersonal (se) is recommended. For example: “it is hoped that this new methodology (...)”, instead of “we hope that this new methodology (...)”.

The journal assumes that the contributors have carried out an ethical management of the sources from which they have extracted information, referencing and citing correctly whenever previously written ideas or texts are used, whether their own or those of third parties. The use of fragments of the author's own previous work, without the respective citation, will be considered self-plagiarism.

In addition, articles must be original and respect the Ethics Statement of the Saberes Educativos Journal. The review process includes the use of plagiarism detection tools.

  1. - Saberes Docentes Magazine reserves the right to propose or introduce corrections in the writing of the texts. In case of corrections, they will be previously sent to the author for validation.
