Abstract

This article addresses the role of vocation in the practice of teaching within the framework of the literature on teacher professionalization. Using a qualitative exploratory design, it investigates the characteristics of professionalization and teaching vocation raised by pedagogy students who currently work as teachers in educational establishments in Chile. The results show that teachers conceptualize their vocation with elements of all types of vocation currently dominant in the field. The importance of knowing teachers in depth at the intersection of these two key concepts is discussed.
